Whew! Project 2 ‘What is self?” Submitted.

7 weeks of exploring self through different media.

The elements to be submitted

2D self portrait portraying inner and outer realities!

3D instillation on the subject of self using foam core board to create a 5 sided cube with one side left open to view. It must include an entryway and a figure to represent scale.

A video presentation.

A stop motion animation.

3 final photographs with contact sheets showing all photographs taken, a photo shoot plan and screenshots of Photoshop adjustments.

2 drypoint prints.

Including research 4 artists working in a translucent medium. 3 artists using drypoint printing. 2 instillation artists exploring self.

On the way I have explored artists from the early 1900’s such as Hilma Af Klint to living artists such as Antony Gormley.

From Impressionism to video instillations.

I have explored Jungian archetypes and the use of mandalas.

I’ve used a photo studio and studio lighting. Played with plasticine and plaster of paris!

I’ve drawn nude models for the first time and clothed!

I’ve not had time to think about anything other than art it’s great, exhausting and painful. However when I’m creating and in the zone I don’t feel pain, afterwards yes but worth it.

To anyone who is thinking about returning to full time education, go for it. Yes it’s scary to start with, however you will soon meet and make friends. You will be tired but weirdly energized.

You’re likely to be harder on yourself than necessary and overthink things.

I’m working on getting the balance right so that I’m not constantly working but that’s me being a perfectionist. I might even find some time to blog more!

I’m having so much fun.
